Sydney for the solo traveller

There are so many ways to experience Sydney as a solo traveller, whether you are looking for culture, food, adventure, or just some me-time Sydney has it all. Here are a few hints to get you started on planning your adventure, but always keep an open mind as to what may happen. That’s the best part of travelling solo, you never know what adventures are around the corner.  

City Sightseeing Tours

Taking a tour is a great introduction to a city, and if it is your first-time visiting Sydney this is the perfect way to familiarise yourself with the city, get your bearings and find out if there’s anything specific you want to see. There are so many types of tours you can take; bus tours allow you to see more of the city from the comfort of a seat, walking tours are an excellent way to mingle and meet new people while seeing specific areas of interest to you.

Art Galleries

Galleries are a solo travellers heaven, walking down the echoing halls admiring artworks is one of the best ways to spend a few hours. So why not take yourself on a date in the city. Start by strolling from the NSW Art Gallery, visiting the State Library, heading past the Museum of Sydney and ending up at the Contemporary Art Gallery. Take a packed lunch and enjoy a picnic in a park close by, or head to one of the many cafes that surround the galleries, the perfect way to spend a day.

Blue Mountains

This is a must-see for the adventurous solo traveller, grab your camera and get ready to have your breath taken away. The first thing you will notice when arriving in the spectacular blue haze of the mountains, caused by the eucalypt forest releasing small droplets of oil into the atmosphere. Also famous for the three rock formations, known as the three sisters, this is one to tick off the bucket list. Best way to get here is via greyhound bus, car or train. Plan your trip with some pre-made snacks or eat out at one of the many local cafes.

Explore the culinary delights

Barangaroo is a hub for boutique-style cocktail bars and restaurants right on the waterfront. A great place to people-watch or better yet meet new friends. If you are reluctant to head out on your own join or even create a meetup group, guaranteed there are other solo travellers keen to meet new people.
